WaveCanvas supports most common audio formats including:

  • MP3 (.mp3)
  • WAV (.wav)
  • M4A (.m4a)
  • OGG (.ogg)
  • FLAC (.flac)

For best quality, we recommend using WAV or high-bitrate MP3 files. The maximum file size is 100MB.

What are the different visualizer styles?

Bars

Classic vertical frequency bars. Great for energetic music and hip-hop.

Radial Bars

Circular visualization with bars radiating from center. Modern and eye-catching.

Hills

Smooth wave hills that flow with the music. Perfect for chill and ambient tracks.

Wave

Animated wave lines. Clean and versatile for any genre.

What are themes?

Themes control the overall look and feel of your video including background, colors, fonts, and text styling. Each theme is designed for specific music genres and use cases.

Popular themes:

  • Hip Hop: Bold black background with gold accents
  • Minimalist: Clean white background for professional content
  • Energetic: Vibrant gradients for upbeat music
  • Cinematic: Dark atmospheric look for dramatic music
  • Neon Vibes: Cyberpunk-inspired with bright colors

Can I add cover images?

Yes! You can add a cover image (album art, artist photo, etc.) that displays alongside the visualizer.

Supported image formats:

  • JPEG/JPG (.jpg, .jpeg)
  • PNG (.png) - supports transparency
  • WebP (.webp)

For best results, use square images (1:1 ratio) at least 1000x1000 pixels.

How do I add social media links?

Click "Add Social" in the preview section to add links to your streaming platforms and social profiles. These appear at the bottom of your video.

Supported platforms:

  • Spotify
  • Apple Music
  • YouTube
  • SoundCloud
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Bandcamp
  • Website (any URL)

The tool automatically extracts and displays your username/handle from the URLs.

What's the difference between landscape and portrait?

Landscape (16:9)

Horizontal format at 1920x1080 pixels. Best for YouTube, desktop viewing, and traditional platforms.

Portrait (9:16)

Vertical format at 1080x1920 pixels. Optimized for Instagram Stories, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and mobile-first content.

You can switch between formats anytime using the toggle in the preview section.

How long does rendering take?

Rendering happens entirely in your browser and depends on several factors:

  • Video length: 1-2 minutes per minute of video on average devices
  • Device performance: Faster on newer computers with better CPUs/GPUs
  • Browser: Chrome and Edge are typically fastest
  • Complexity: Videos with cover images may take slightly longer

Typical render times: 3-minute video = 3-6 minutes of rendering. After rendering, your video is automatically uploaded and ready to download.

What is the video quality?

All videos are rendered at high quality:

  • Landscape: 1920x1080 (Full HD)
  • Portrait: 1080x1920 (Full HD vertical)
  • Frame rate: 30 FPS
  • Video codec: H.264 (MP4) or VP8 (WebM for Firefox)
  • Audio codec: AAC (MP4) or Opus (WebM)
  • Audio quality: Your original audio quality is preserved

This quality is optimized for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and all major social media platforms.

Why does Firefox export WebM instead of MP4?

Firefox does not support AAC audio encoding in the browser, which is required for MP4 videos. Instead, WaveCanvas automatically exports as WebM format (VP8 video + Opus audio) when you use Firefox.

Good news: WebM is fully supported by YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and most social media platforms. The quality is identical to MP4.

Need MP4? Use Chrome, Edge, or Safari for MP4 export.

Why do I get a Storage Quota Exceeded error?

This happens when your browser runs out of storage space while rendering the video. The browser uses temporary storage to process video frames.

Solutions:

  • Use the 30-second sample option instead of full video
  • Clear your browser data: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data
  • Try using a different browser (Chrome usually has more available storage)
  • Close other tabs and applications to free up memory
  • Try rendering a shorter audio file

Is my data private?

Yes. Your source files are processed entirely in your browser:

  • Your audio and image files never leave your device during editing
  • All preview generation happens locally on your computer
  • Original files remain untouched on your device

Rendered videos: After rendering, your finished video is temporarily uploaded to our secure servers so you can download it. These videos are automatically deleted after 90 days.
